Data Storage is the network that holds all the redundant information like photos, videos, texts, etc… They always are physical servers. The function of Data Storage is the set of specifications that serve for defining how, when and what is stored.
In every organization, independently of the sector or the size, you can observe that the data grows at an exponential rhythm and that generates a problem on the time of storing them. It is no longer enough with storing, but you have to define a strategy that feels the storage bases. The function of a Data Storage looks forward to implement good practice and politics that comply with the objectives fixed from the Data Governance, in a form where you can not align. An image to illustrate the concept, would be buying the management of the food you should put away in the pantry of a house, with food to put up in a supermarket. While in the first case the volume was so manageable that it does not require a order, in the second, a logical order is indispensable
There are three different types of data storage: primary, secondary and off-line storage.
Primary storage holds memory only for the period of time that your computer is running. It is more expensive than secondary storage. Two examples of a primary storage device are Random Access Memory (RAM) and cache.
Secondary storage holds your memory or storage no matter if your computer is on or off until it´s deleted. It can be removable, internal or external storage. Removable storage allows you to move data to another computer without having to open the other computer like a DVD, a CD or a USB.
Internal storage is installed within the computer like a CPU, a modem or a sound card.
External storage is installed outside of the computer like a printer, headphones, a keyboard or a mouse.
Off-line storage is used to transport information and to backup it. An example is an USB.
Wow! That's a lot of information. Great!!

ReplyDeleteHey Cami, Feli and Britta!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post about data storage! You guys are really good at explaining things.
I love that the information is very detailed yet still understandable. I had no idea that there was a third type of storage devices! It's really well written.
To be honest, I can't think of any way to make this text better!
If anyone asks me what data storage is, I'll surely link them to this! I'll look forward to your next posts.
